The project “Teacher training at learners’ assessment and digital tools” is implemented by Directorate of Secondary Education in the Dodecanese.
The project aims at teachers’ training in two modules
A) Learners’ assessment
B) Digital tools
The objective of learners’ assessment training is to acquire knowledge and competences relevant to alternative forms of assessment, their interconnection with exams and learners’ evaluation and the assessment of individual skills not included in curriculum subjects. A second objective is the differentiated organization of teaching and learning in the framework of exams along with implementation of innovative teaching practices and activities that reinforce individual and social development of learners and create positive school climate.
The objective of digital tools training is to modernize schools and to adopt ICT at administration and educational level. Having in mind our learners’ constant use of digital applications, it is our intention to enhance traditional way of teaching with digital learning content which will upgrade teaching procedure and learning. A second objective is the exploitation of digital tools for administrative purposes and for digital presence of schools in social media.
The project includes attendance of two courses, one in Belgium for learners’ assessment and one in Portugal for digital tools. Both courses include visits to secondary schools.
During the two years of the project, there will be online communication between participating schools, teachers, Directorate and providers of training in order to strengthen interaction, making use of new technologies for distant collaboration.
When each mobility activity is completed, the participating schools will proceed on a pilot application of new practices. After the evaluation of pilot phase, valorisation events have been planned in order to motivate further application of new practices at schools administered by Directorate of Secondary Education in the Dodecanese, with support from participant teachers in the project.
The project will result in a website, use of digital tools and production of a digital guidelines booklet. In addition dissemination events will be held with target groups 100 schools, 2,500 teachers and 15,000 students in the Dodecanese as well as general public.
The impact of the project for learners’ assessment is expected to be positive as it will reduce pressure on teachers and learners due to examination system. It is estimated that there will be new ideas for connecting assessment with implementing innovative teaching approaches and activities which comprehend learners’ individual skills. As a result, the practical application of these new ideas will contribute to improvements at school performance and integration of all learners in school community.
The expected impact for new technologies is the upgrade of quality in education since participant teachers will improve digital skills. Participants will be able to use digital content in their lessons, to create digital learning material along with learners, to practice modern teaching approaches with the use of ICT and to make learning more enjoyable for teenagers. Finally, schools will apply new technologies in administrative and educational level, following the technological developments of our time.
A long term goal of the project is to continue the implementation of new practices after the end of the project since participating schools will be multipliers at regional level. Directorate of Secondary Education in the Dodecanese as supervising educational authority will incorporate the best practices of the project in its educational policy and will sustain the website for 5 years.
